Arkady Bakhin is a Lithuanian-born Russian composer and conductor. He is best known for his works for the stage, including operas, ballets, and symphonic works. He has also composed numerous film scores and chamber works. Bakhin was born in Kaunas, Lithuania, and studied at the Moscow Conservatory, where he graduated in 1981. He then went on to teach at the conservatory, and in 1989 he was appointed professor of composition. Bakhin has composed several operas, including The Brothers Karamazov (1991), The Queen of Spades (1993), and The Snow Maiden (1995). He has also composed several ballets, including The Nutcracker (1996) and The Firebird (1998). His symphonic works include the Symphony No. 1 (1995) and Symphony No. 2 (1998). Bakhin has composed numerous film scores, including The Irony of Fate (1975), The Mirror (1975), and The Barber of Siberia (1998). He has also composed several chamber works, including the String Quartet No. 1 (1995) and the Piano Trio No. 1 (1998). Bakhin is currently the artistic director of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. He has also served as the principal conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.
