Anton Eger is a Norwegian drummer and composer. He is best known for his work with the band Jaga Jazzist, and for his solo projects. He has also collaborated with artists such as Nils Petter Molvaer, Bugge Wesseltoft, and Marius Neset. Eger was born in Oslo, Norway, and began playing drums at the age of seven. He studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, and graduated in 2004. Eger has released several solo albums, including his debut album, Anton Eger's Big Drum (2006), and his most recent album, Life in Leipzig (2018). He has also released several albums with Jaga Jazzist, including A Livingroom Hush (2002) and What We Must (2010). Eger has toured extensively throughout Europe, the United States, and Japan. He has also performed at major festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival, and the London Jazz Festival. He also collaborates within the trio Phronesis with double bassist Jasper Høiby and pianist and saxophonist Ivo Neame. They have released six albums so far. Their 2010 album Alive was nominated jazz album of the year by Jazzwise and Mojo magazines.
Eger studied jazz at the Copenhagen Rhythmic Music Conservatory under the guidance of Django Bates among others, and played drums on Bates' album Spring is Here (Shall We Dance?) (2008). Within the Scandinavian quintet JazzKamikaze, he participates on several album releases and appeared at various international jazz festivals Kongsberg Jazzfestival, Moldejazz, North Sea Jazz Festival, Bangkok Jazz Festival, Rochester Jazz Festival, as well as being part of the opening of the annual Rio Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.
