Andy Cox is a British guitarist and songwriter, best known for his work with the bands The Beat and Fine Young Cannibals. He was born on 25 January 1956 in Birmingham, England. Cox began playing guitar at the age of 14, and soon joined a local band called The Beat. He went on to become a founding member of the band, and was a major contributor to their success. He wrote and co-wrote many of their songs, including their biggest hit, "Mirror in the Bathroom". Cox left The Beat in 1983 and formed the band Fine Young Cannibals with bassist David Steele and singer Roland Gift. The band had several hits, including "She Drives Me Crazy" and "Good Thing". Cox has also worked as a session musician, playing on albums by artists such as Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, and Sinead O'Connor. Cox is currently a member of the band The Beat, and continues to tour and record with them. He is also a member of the band The Fine Young Cannibals.
