William Addams Reitwiesner is an American genealogist and historian. He is best known for his work on the genealogy of the British Royal Family and the American First Families. He is the author of several books on genealogy and has been a consultant to the British Royal Family. Reitwiesner was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland, and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1976 with a degree in history. He then worked as a computer programmer for the National Security Agency. In the 1980s, he began researching the genealogy of the British Royal Family and the American First Families. Reitwiesner has written several books on genealogy, including The Royal Descents of 600 Immigrants to the American Colonies or the United States (1993), The Royal Descents of 500 Immigrants to the United States (1996), and The Royal Descents of 600 Immigrants to the United States (1999). He has also written articles for genealogical magazines and journals. Reitwiesner has served as a consultant to the British Royal Family and has been a guest lecturer at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. After graduating from Montgomery Blair High School in 1972, Reitwiesner joined the Library of Congress's Congressional Research Service (CRS) as a cart pusher. He spent the rest of his working life in menial jobs at the Library of Congress so that he could devote his time pursuing his interest in genealogy. Although much of his work was self-published on the internet, he acquired a reputation for meticulousness and accuracy and many genealogists cited him in their publications.

Reitwiesner was born on 8 March 1954 in Havre de Grace, Maryland, the son of Homé Stephens (McAllister) and George Walter Reitwiesner. He grew up in Aberdeen, Maryland and Silver Spring. His grandfather, Addams Stratton McAllister, was a board member of the National Genealogical Society, and from the age of five, Reitwiesner would explore his grandfather's library.
