Toni Basil is an American singer, songwriter, choreographer, dancer, actress, and filmmaker. She is best known for her 1981 hit single "Mickey", which reached number one in the United States and the United Kingdom. Basil was born Antonia Christina Basilotta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to an Italian-American family. She began her career as a dancer and choreographer in the 1960s, working with artists such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Beach Boys. She also appeared in several films, including Easy Rider (1969) and Five Easy Pieces (1970). In the 1970s, Basil began to focus on her music career, releasing her debut album Word of Mouth in 1981. The album featured her hit single "Mickey", which reached number one in the United States and the United Kingdom. She followed up with the album Toni Basil in 1983, which featured the singles "Over My Head" and "Shoppin' from A to Z". Basil has continued to perform and record music throughout her career, releasing her most recent album, Toni Basil Live, in 2018. She has also appeared in several films and television shows, including The Simpsons and The King of Queens. Basil has been married twice, first to actor and director Bill O'Connor, and then to actor and producer Mark Hudson. She has one daughter, actress and singer-songwriter Erika O'Connor.
