Steve Garvey is a former Major League Baseball first baseman who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and St. Louis Cardinals. He was a 10-time All-Star and two-time National League MVP. He was also a member of the 1984 World Series champion Dodgers. Garvey was born on December 22, 1948 in Tampa, Florida. He attended Michigan State University, where he played college baseball for the Spartans. He was drafted by the Dodgers in the first round of the 1968 MLB Draft. Garvey made his MLB debut with the Dodgers in 1969 and quickly established himself as one of the best players in the league. He was a 10-time All-Star and two-time National League MVP. He was also a member of the 1984 World Series champion Dodgers. Garvey retired from baseball in 1987 with a career batting average of .294, 272 home runs, and 1303 RBIs. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987. Garvey is currently the CEO of the San Diego-based Garvey Group, a real estate development and investment firm. He is also the founder of the Garvey Institute for Human Potential and Performance, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young people reach their full potential.
