He attended the University of British Columbia, where he studied film and television production. Landels began his career in the film industry in 2003, working as a production assistant on the television series The Chris Isaak Show. He then worked as a production assistant on the films The Butterfly Effect (2004) and The Grudge (2004). In 2006, Landels began working as a producer on the television series Masters of Horror. He then produced the films You're Next (2011) and The Cabin in the Woods (2012). In 2015, Landels made his directorial debut with the film The Final Girls.
