He is best known for his work with Lou Reed, Bob Weir, Neil Young, Elvis Costello, and many others. Wasserman began playing the bass at the age of 12. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied classical music and composition. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles and began playing with various jazz and rock groups. Wasserman has released several solo albums, including Duets (1988), Trios (1990), and Solo (1993). He has also collaborated with a variety of artists, including Bruce Hornsby, Rickie Lee Jones, and Van Dyke Parks. Wasserman has won two Grammy Awards, one for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1994 and one for Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 1996.
