Rafael Pedroza is a former Panamanian professional boxer who competed from 1975 to 1991. He held the WBA featherweight title from 1980 to 1983, and the WBC featherweight title from 1983 to 1984. Pedroza was born on 27 March 1955 in Colón, Panama. He began his professional boxing career in 1975, and won his first title, the WBA featherweight title, in 1980. He defended the title four times before losing it in 1983. He then won the WBC featherweight title in 1983, and defended it once before losing it in 1984. Pedroza retired from boxing in 1991 with a record of 48 wins (30 by knockout), 8 losses, and 1 draw. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2004. Pedroza turned professional in 1974, he lost his first two attempts at a world title in 1977 and 1979 but became the WBA super-flyweight world champion on December 5, 1981 after his points victory against Argentine Gustavo Ballas. Pedroza was beaten in his first defense by Jiro Watanabe in what ended up being his final fight. He is the cousin of hall of fame boxer Eusebio Pedroza.
