Olive Blakeney was an American actress who had a career spanning over four decades. She was born on August 21, 1894 in Newport, Kentucky. She began her career in the early 1920s, appearing in silent films such as The Ten Commandments (1923) and The Thief of Bagdad (1924). She also appeared in several Broadway plays, including The Cat and the Canary (1926) and The Barker (1927). Blakeney's career continued into the sound era, with roles in films such as The Big Sleep (1946) and The Snake Pit (1948). She also appeared in television series such as The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952-1954) and The Donna Reed Show (1958-1966). Blakeney was married to actor William Bakewell from 1932 until his death in 1963. She died on April 28, 1971 in Los Angeles, California. Before long, however, Olive secured a regular niche as Alice Aldrich (mother to Henry, played by Jimmy Lydon -- whose mother-in-law she was in real life) in Paramount's popular Aldrich Family series.
