2018

In September 2017, he was diagnosed with an inoperable cancer in the left lung. In early October 2018, he was hospitalized at the 62nd Moscow Oncology Hospital and died on October 26th due to kidney failure, one day before his 74th birthday. Farewell to the actor will be held October 29, 2018 in the theater "Lenkom".

2017

On February 27, 2017, Karachentsov got into a serious cat accident again. A car driven by his wife Lyudmila Porgina collided with a "Gazelle" in the village of Zagoryansky of the Schelkovsky District near Moscow. The blow was so strong that the car overturned. Karachentsov suffered a concussion and was taken to hospital. On March 3, 2017, he was released from the hospital.

2015

Had one son with his wife Lyudmila Porgina, Andrey Karachentsov (b. Feruary 24, 1978), who is a lawyer and CEO of the Nikolay Karachentsov Cultural Foundation. He also had three grandchildren: Pyotr (b. 2002), Yanina (b. 2005) and Olga (b. May 26, 2015).

2005

On the night of February 28, 2005, a Volkswagen Passat B5 car, driven by Karachentsov, got into an accident on the icy road of Michurinsky Prospekt in Moscow. He hurried from his summer cottage to Moscow agitated by the news of his mother-in-law's death. He was not wearing a safety belt and exceeding the speed limit at the time of accident. As a result, he received a serious head injury. He was taken to the hospital, where he was subjected to craniotomy and brain surgery on the same night. As soon as the condition allowed, he was transferred to the Sklifosovsky Institute. Karachentsov spent 26 days in a coma. In early June, he was transferred to the Center for Speech Pathology and Neuro Rehabilitation. The recovery process has been delayed. Only in May 2007, he was able to climb the stage. From March to April of 2011, Karachentsov was treated in one of the Israeli clinics. It was noted that his speech improved. From January to May 2013, Karachentsov was treated in Beijing clinics (PRC).
