He had his first taste of show business as one of the original Mousketeers on Walt Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club (1955) (his father claims that Walt Disney named the famous Mouse after him).

He and brother Tim Rooney were hired in 1955 due to their ability to sing, dance and act.
