Mark Bauerlein is an American professor of English at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is the author of several books, including The Dumbest Generation: How the Digital Age Stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future (2008) and The Digital Divide: How the Information Age Widens the Gap Between Rich and Poor (2003). Bauerlein was born in 1959 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981 and his Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1988. Bauerlein is married and has two children. He is a senior editor of the journal First Things and a contributing editor of the journal The American Scholar. He is also a member of the National Council on the Humanities.
