Makoto Sei Watanabe is a Japanese architect and professor at the University of Tokyo. He is known for his work in the field of urban design and architecture, and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Japan Art Academy Prize in 2000 and the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize in 2003. Watanabe was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa in 1952. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1975 and received his master's degree in architecture from the same university in 1977. He then worked as an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo from 1977 to 1982. Watanabe has designed numerous buildings, including the Tokyo International Forum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, and the Tokyo Sky Tree. He has also designed several urban plans, including the Tokyo Bay Area Plan and the Tokyo Metropolitan Area Plan. Watanabe has received numerous awards for his work, including the Japan Art Academy Prize in 2000, the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize in 2003, and the Order of the Rising Sun in 2008.
