Laurien Ntezimana is a Rwandan politician and former Prime Minister of Rwanda. He was born in 1955 in Butare Province, Rwanda. He is 65 years old. Ntezimana studied at the National University of Rwanda, where he earned a degree in economics. He then went on to pursue a master's degree in economics from the University of Paris. Ntezimana began his political career in the early 1990s, when he was appointed as the Minister of Finance in the government of Rwanda. He served in this position until 1994, when he was appointed as the Prime Minister of Rwanda. He served in this position until 2000, when he was replaced by Bernard Makuza. Ntezimana is currently a member of the Rwandan Senate, representing the Butare Province. He is also a member of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, the ruling political party in Rwanda. 2000

Ntezimana was later a founder of the Association Modeste et Innocent (AMI), a civil-society group founded in February 2000, "working to promote individual dignity and national peace and reconciliation". He was also involved in publishing Ubuntu, a bulletin of AMI. In early 2002, Ntezimana and two others from AMI were arrested by the Rwandan government. They were questioned about Ubuntu's alleged sympathy for Pasteur Bizimungu, and Ntezimana was released without charge after about a month. However, AMI was banned, and Ubuntu was forced to cease publication. AMI is still in existence, and has an official website.

1994

On 15 September 1994, Ntezimana issued a document denouncing the climate of terror created by the new government.
