He is best known for directing films such as Sommersby (1993), Copycat (1995), The Core (2003), and Creation (2009). Amiel began his career in television, directing episodes of shows such as The Professionals, Minder, and The Singing Detective. He made his feature film debut with Queen of Hearts (1989). He then went on to direct Sommersby (1993), Copycat (1995), and Entrapment (1999). In 2003, Amiel directed the science fiction film The Core, starring Aaron Eckhart and Hilary Swank. He then directed the biographical drama Creation (2009), starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly. Amiel has also directed episodes of television shows such as The X-Files, Fringe, and The Borgias. He is currently directing the upcoming series The Nevers for HBO.
