Jay Howell is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and New York Yankees. He was born on November 26, 1955 in American, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma State University and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 1977 amateur draft. He made his major league debut with the Athletics in 1979 and went on to play for the Dodgers, Padres, and Yankees. He was a three-time All-Star and won the National League Rolaids Relief Man Award in 1988. He retired after the 1993 season with a career record of 57-54 and a 3.90 ERA.
