Gloria Estefan is a Cuban-American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. She is one of the most successful crossover performers in Latin music to date, having sold over 100 million records worldwide, including 31.5 million in the United States alone. She has won seven Grammy Awards and is the most successful crossover performer in Latin music history. Estefan began her career as the lead singer of the Miami Latin Boys, a group that later became known as Miami Sound Machine. She achieved mainstream success with the 1985 release of the album Primitive Love, which spawned the international hit single "Conga". Estefan has released a total of 24 studio albums, including the multi-platinum albums Cuts Both Ways (1989), Into the Light (1991), and Destiny (1996). Estefan has also acted in several films, including Music of the Heart (1999) and For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story (2000). She has also been involved in various philanthropic activities, including the Gloria Estefan Foundation, which provides scholarships to underprivileged students.
