G.W. Bailey is an American actor and producer who has appeared in numerous films and television shows. He is best known for his roles as Lieutenant Thaddeus Harris in the Police Academy films, Captain Harris in M*A*S*H, and Lieutenant Provenza in The Closer. He was born on August 27, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas, USA. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Drama. He began his acting career in the late 1960s, appearing in several television shows, including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, and The Partridge Family. He made his feature film debut in the 1971 film The Last Picture Show. In 1984, he was cast as Lieutenant Thaddeus Harris in the Police Academy films. He went on to appear in all seven films in the series. He also appeared in the television series M*A*S*H, playing the role of Captain Harris from 1983 to 1984. In 2005, he was cast as Lieutenant Provenza in the TNT police drama The Closer. He appeared in all seven seasons of the show, and reprised his role in the spin-off series Major Crimes. He has also appeared in numerous other films and television shows, including The Rockford Files, The Waltons, The Dukes of Hazzard, The A-Team, and The West Wing. As of 2021, G.W. For the 1999-2000 school year, he is the Artist-in-Residence for Southwest Texas State University.

In 1994, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree of Fine Arts, Theatre and, for the 1999-2000 school year, he was the Artist in Residence. While in his 30s, Bailey went prematurely gray, leading to roles of characters much older than his actual age.
