Eleanor Updale is a British author and screenwriter. She was born in 1953 in London, England. She is best known for her Montmorency series of books, which have been adapted into a television series. She has also written several other books, including the award-winning novel, The London Eye Mystery. Updale studied English at Oxford University and then went on to work in television production. She has written for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Sky. She has also written for the stage, including the play, The Last of the Red Hot Lovers. Updale has won several awards for her writing, including the Carnegie Medal for The London Eye Mystery and the Nestle Children's Book Prize for Montmorency. She has also been shortlisted for the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize and the Whitbread Children's Book Award. Updale is married and has two children. She currently lives in London.

Eleanor Updale (born 1953) is an English fiction writer, best known for the Victorian-era London thriller Montmorency (2003) and its sequels, the Montmorency series.

Eleanor Updale was born in 1953 and grew up in Camberwell in South London. She studied history at St Anne's College, Oxford, before becoming a producer of television and radio current affairs programmes for the BBC. She studied at the new Centre for Editing Lives and Letters at Queen Mary College, University of London, and was awarded a PhD in History in 2007. She is also a trustee of the charity Listening Books.
