Edward Everett Horton was an American actor and comedian. He began his career in vaudeville and silent films, and later appeared in numerous television programs and films. He is best remembered for his roles in the films of the 1930s and 1940s, such as the Marx Brothers' A Night at the Opera (1935), Bringing Up Baby (1938), and Holiday (1938). He also appeared in the television series The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show (1959–1964). Horton was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 18, 1886. He began his career in vaudeville and silent films, and later appeared in numerous television programs and films. He was known for his comic timing and his ability to deliver a line with a deadpan expression. Horton was married twice, first to actress Edna Louise Broedt in 1915, and then to actress Mary Louise Schuyler in 1924. He had two children, a son, Edward Everett Horton Jr., and a daughter, Mary Louise Horton. Horton died on September 29, 1970, in Encino, California, at the age of 84. He was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
