Edvin Adolphson was a Swedish actor, director, and writer. He was born in Furingstad, Östergötlands län, Sweden on 25 February 1893. He was best known for his roles in the films "The Seventh Seal" (1957), "The Magician" (1958), and "The Emigrants" (1971). Adolphson began his career as an actor in the 1920s, appearing in several Swedish films. He made his directorial debut in 1945 with the film "The White Cat". He went on to direct several other films, including "The Seventh Seal" and "The Magician". Adolphson was also a prolific writer, having written several plays, novels, and short stories. He was awarded the Swedish Academy's Nordic Prize in 1971 for his contributions to literature. Adolphson died on 28 April 1979 in Stockholm, Sweden. He was 86 years old.

Adolphson grew up in Norrköping, where his father was smith. To his father's disapproval, he began acting in small parts in the local theaters, particularly Arbis, the worker's theater. He started an education to become an engineer in Västerås, but the theater was the only thing he was interested in and eventually left school. In 1913 he joined a traveling theater company and traveled all around Sweden.
