Brenda Blethyn is an English actress who has been active in the entertainment industry since the 1970s. She is best known for her roles in the films Secrets & Lies (1996), Saving Grace (2000), and Pride & Prejudice (2005). She has also appeared in television series such as Vera (2011–present) and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (1983–2004). Blethyn was born on 20 February 1946 in Ramsgate, Kent, England. She attended the Guildford School of Acting and graduated in 1969. She began her career in theatre, appearing in productions such as The Knack (1974) and The Rocky Horror Show (1975). In 1996, Blethyn received critical acclaim for her performance in Mike Leigh's Secrets & Lies, for which she won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She has since appeared in numerous films, including Saving Grace (2000), Pride & Prejudice (2005), and The Girl in the Café (2005). In 2011, Blethyn began starring in the ITV drama series Vera, playing the title role of DCI Vera Stanhope. She has since appeared in all nine series of the show, which has been renewed for a tenth series. As of 2021, Blethyn's net worth is estimated to be around $10 million.
