Bob Sheppard is the legendary public address announcer and "voice" of Yankee Stadium since 1951. Bob was a speech teacher in the New York City school system and at St. John's University when he joined the Yankees.

1948

Yankee officials heard him deliver a tribute to Babe Ruth at a local football game in 1948. They offered him a job on the spot which he did not accept until 3 years later when the Yankees guaranteed him an understudy so his duties with the team would not interfere with his teaching. His clear, concise, and correct speaking style has been heard during a record 52 baseball seasons, 21 World Series and two All Star Games.
