McCoy also appeared in several silent films, including "The Great Adventure" (1915), "The Little Princess" (1917), and "The Great Love" (1918). She retired from acting in the 1920s and died in New York City on April 15, 1945. At the time of her death, McCoy was estimated to have a net worth of $1 million. Bessie took her daughter Hope on a trip to Bayonne, France in the Summer of 1931. While there she became sick with an intestinal ailment and had an emergency operation.

By the early 1920s she was retired and living in a Connecticut estate.

She returned to Broadway to appear in Ziegfeld's musical Miss 1917. Then she performed in the Greenwich Village Follies.
