Andrew Hemingway is a British actor and director who has been active in the entertainment industry since the late 1970s. He is best known for his roles in the films The Elephant Man (1980), The Killing Fields (1984), and The Mission (1986). Hemingway was born in Yorkshire, England in 1955. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where he studied acting. After graduating, he began his career in theater, appearing in productions of The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice, and The Tempest. In 1980, Hemingway made his film debut in the acclaimed drama The Elephant Man, directed by David Lynch. He went on to appear in a number of films, including The Killing Fields (1984), The Mission (1986), and The Madness of King George (1994). In addition to his film work, Hemingway has also appeared in numerous television series, including The Bill, Midsomer Murders, and Foyle's War. He has also directed several television movies, including The Scarlet Pimpernel (1999) and The Scarlet Pimpernel Returns (2000). Hemingway is married to actress and director Sarah Miles. They have two children.

Andrew Hemingway (born 1955) was educated at Camberwell school of art in the 1970s, where he took his degree in fine art and the history of art. He studied in Italy and Japan and received a Norwegian scholarship. He exhibited at the RA summer show continuously between 1975 and 1989. At the same time he was represented by the Piccadilly Gallery, Cork Street London, where he mounted two one man shows. In 1989 he ended his love affair with his beloved egg tempera which he had used at the outset of his studies at Camberwell. In 1990 he began to explore new ways of laying down pastel, he purposely did not use it as a drawing tool but used it to explore old master techniques, which had only ever been employed using the medium of Oil paint. He has been called a modern master of pastel having broken new ground painting the still life, the portrait and landscape. He has exhibited at the world-famous art fair, the TEFAF the European fine art fair at Maastricht. At the start of the new millennium he was represented by the respected and renowned art dealer in Amsterdam Drs Loek Brons, who for many years placed a substantial body of his work in important European collections. His long standing relationship with the Mira Goddard Gallery in Toronto was established more than 25 years ago and still flourishes today. He continues to hold one man exhibitions with the gallery. The Brian Sinfield Gallery in Buford, Oxfordshire also represent him, as they have done for nearly 30 years. Over the last four decades he has enjoyed an uninterrupted career as a painter and designer. Hammer Galleries in New York, Messums Cork Street London, Waterman Fine Art London, Galerie Ludorff Düsseldorf Germany and Everard Reed Gallery South Africa have all exhibited his work. His paintings are found in the collection of the Duke of Devonshire Chatsworth, Lord and Lady Rothermere, Nestle Switzerland, The Halifax Building Society, Yorkshire Bank and many others in the USA, Canada and Europe. He is also a member of the Pastel Society.
