Agnes Ayres was an American actress who rose to fame in the silent film era. She was born on April 4, 1898 in Carbondale, Illinois. She began her career in the theater, appearing in productions in Chicago and New York. In 1919, she made her film debut in the silent drama The Great Love. She went on to appear in over 30 films, including The Sheik (1921), The Affairs of Anatol (1921), and The Bright Shawl (1923). Ayres was one of the most popular actresses of the silent era, and was known for her beauty and charm. She was married to actor Wallace Beery from 1923 to 1926. She retired from acting in 1926, and died in 1940 at the age of 42. Agnes Ayres had an estimated net worth of $2 million at the time of her death.
