Alan Phillips is a former Welsh rugby union player and current WRU Team Manager. He was born in Bridgend, Wales on 21 August 1954. He began his rugby career at Bridgend RFC, where he played for the first team from 1972 to 1975. He then moved to Neath RFC, where he played from 1975 to 1982. Phillips was a member of the Wales national rugby union team from 1977 to 1982, playing in the Five Nations Championship and the British Lions tour of South Africa in 1980. He was also a member of the Barbarians team that toured South Africa in 1981. Phillips retired from playing in 1982 and began a career in coaching. He was the head coach of Neath RFC from 1983 to 1988, and then the head coach of the Wales national rugby union team from 1988 to 1991. He was also the head coach of the British Lions tour of New Zealand in 1993. Phillips has been the WRU Team Manager since 2002. He is responsible for the selection and management of the Wales national rugby union team. He is also a member of the WRU Board of Directors. Phillips is married to his wife, Sue, and they have two children. He is currently 69 years old.
