Alan Baker is an American educator and author. He is the former president of the University of West Alabama and the former president of the University of North Alabama. He is also the author of several books, including "The Power of Education: A Guide to Becoming a Successful Educator" and "The Power of Leadership: A Guide to Becoming a Successful Leader". Baker was born on July 15, 1956 in Brewton, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1978. He then went on to earn a Master of Education degree from the University of West Alabama in 1981. Baker began his career as a teacher and coach in the public school system in Alabama. He then moved into higher education, serving as an assistant professor at the University of West Alabama from 1983 to 1988. He then served as the president of the University of West Alabama from 1988 to 1998. In 1998, he was appointed president of the University of North Alabama, where he served until his retirement in 2018. Baker is a member of the National Association of College and University Presidents and the American Council on Education. He is also a member of the National Education Association and the American Association of University Professors. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Association of College and University Presidents' Distinguished Service Award and the American Council on Education's Distinguished Service Award.
