She attended the University of Edinburgh, where she studied English Literature. After graduating, she worked as a cleaner and then as a cleaner supervisor. MacKenzie first appeared on television in 2003, when she was featured on the BBC series How Clean Is Your House? She quickly became a fan favorite, and the show was a success. She then went on to star in the spin-off series, Aggie's Home Secrets, which ran from 2004 to 2006.
