Adrienne Ames was an American actress and dancer who had a successful career in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s. She was born Adrienne Ruth McClure on August 3, 1903 in Fort Worth, Texas. She began her career as a dancer in vaudeville and on Broadway before making her film debut in 1929. Throughout her career, Ames appeared in over 30 films, including The Big Broadcast of 1936 (1935), The Great Ziegfeld (1936), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), and The Mark of Zorro (1940). She also appeared in several television series, including The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and The Red Skelton Show. Adrienne Ames was married three times, first to actor Bruce Cabot, then to actor John Carroll, and finally to actor Robert Ames. She died on May 30, 1947 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 43.

In her biography "Natural Blonde" (2000) Liz Smith indicates that her grandmother one time rented a room (at 1811 Jennings, Fort Worth, TX) to Adrienne Ames before Ames moved to Los Angeles. Smith says Ames died of lung cancer. (p.33).

She was posthumously awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1612 Vine Street in Hollywood, California on February 8, 1960.

1938

In 1938 the pair appeared before a US Tax Appeals Board to explain why she wrote off more than $9000 in wardrobe and jewelry on her 1934 tax form, which she claimed was necessary for "professional reasons" (as was her maid). She claimed that her "daily expenses" included flowers, massages, taxis and beauty work.

In 1931 she married Bruce Cabot after leaving her second husband, a rich New York City stockbroker, but she and Cabot only lasted six years. In her divorce she told the court that the main reason she left him was that he was a violent, uncontrollable drunk.
