Achim Mentzel is a German actor, writer, and soundtrack composer. He is best known for his roles in the films The Tin Drum (1979), The Neverending Story (1984), and The Name of the Rose (1986). He has also appeared in numerous television series, including Tatort, Der Alte, and Der Kommissar. Mentzel was born in Berlin, Germany, on 15 July 1946. He studied acting at the Berlin University of the Arts and began his career in the theater. He made his film debut in the 1975 film Die Reise nach Wien. Mentzel has appeared in over 50 films and television series. He has also composed music for several films, including The Tin Drum and The Neverending Story. Mentzel has been married twice and has two children. He currently resides in Berlin.
