She was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, on November 11, 1744. She was the daughter of William Smith and Elizabeth Quincy Smith. Abigail Adams was an early advocate for women's rights and education. She was an avid reader and wrote extensively to her husband and children about politics, philosophy, and literature. She was also a strong supporter of the American Revolution and was an active participant in the Continental Congress. Abigail Adams died on October 28, 1818, at the age of 74. She is buried in the First Parish Church in Quincy, Massachusetts. Abigail Adams was a wealthy woman in her own right. She inherited a large estate from her father and was able to purchase additional land and property. She was also a successful businesswoman, investing in stocks and bonds.
