Wolfgang Petersen is a German film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for directing the submarine warfare film Das Boot (1981), the epic war film Troy (2004), the remake of the disaster film The Poseidon Adventure (2005), and the fantasy film The NeverEnding Story (1984). Petersen was born on 14 March 1941 in Emden, Germany. He studied at the University of Television and Film Munich and graduated in 1965. Petersen began his career as a film editor and assistant director in the late 1960s. His first feature film was the German drama The Consequence (1977). He then directed the submarine warfare film Das Boot (1981), which was nominated for six Academy Awards. Petersen has since directed a number of successful films, including the epic war film Troy (2004), the remake of the disaster film The Poseidon Adventure (2005), and the fantasy film The NeverEnding Story (1984). Petersen has been married twice. He has two children from his first marriage and one from his second. As of 2021, Wolfgang Petersen's net worth is estimated to be roughly $20 million.
