He attended Northwestern University, where he studied theater. After graduating, he moved to New York City and began his acting career. Bassett has appeared in over 100 films and television shows. He has also done voice work for animated films and television shows. He has been nominated for several awards, including an Emmy Award for his role in The Waltons. Bassett is married to actress and singer, Susan Watson. They have two children. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
