Vic Elford is a British former racing driver and rally driver. He is best known for his victories in the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona and the 1968 Targa Florio. He was also a successful rally driver, winning the Monte Carlo Rally in 1968 and the Safari Rally in 1969. Elford was born in Peckham, London, England, on 10 June 1935. He began his racing career in 1959, competing in Formula Junior and Formula Three. He made his Formula One debut in 1966, driving for Cooper. He also drove for Porsche in sports car racing, winning the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1968 and the Targa Florio in the same year. In 1968, Elford also won the Monte Carlo Rally, driving a Porsche 911. He followed this up with a win in the Safari Rally in 1969. He continued to race in Formula One until 1972, when he retired from the sport. Elford has since become a successful businessman, owning a number of companies in the automotive industry. He is also a successful author, having written several books about his racing career. Elford is married to his wife, Sue, and they have two children. He currently resides in Monaco.
