He is best known for his career as a professional tennis player, which spanned from 1979 to 1992. Gorman won two singles titles and four doubles titles during his career. He reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 24 in 1985 and a career-high doubles ranking of World No. 8 in 1988. He also represented the United States in the Davis Cup from 1981 to 1988. Gorman retired from professional tennis in 1992. Since then, he has served as a tennis coach and commentator. He is currently the head coach of the men's tennis team at the University of San Diego.
