T. S. Sathyavathi is an Indian musicologist and scholar. She is a professor of musicology at the University of Madras and a former professor of musicology at the University of Hyderabad. She is a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to musicology. Sathyavathi was born on 30 June 1954 in Bengaluru, India. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in music from the University of Madras in 1975 and her Master of Arts in music from the same university in 1977. She then went on to pursue her Doctor of Philosophy in music from the University of Hyderabad in 1983. Sathyavathi has been a professor of musicology at the University of Madras since 1985. She has also served as a professor of musicology at the University of Hyderabad from 1988 to 1991. She has published several books and articles on musicology and has been a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to musicology. As of 2021, T. S. Sathyavathi was born on 30 June 1954 in Bangalore, Karnataka to T.S. Srinivasa Murthy and Shri Rangalakshmi. As a child she sang before the Maharani of Mysore at the age of two. She pursued her M.A., M.Phil degree in Sanskrit from Bangalore University. Her thesis on "Contribution of Abhilashithartha Chintamani to Indian music", gained her doctorate degree from Bangalore University. Raised with sisters who were practitioners of music, she topped in her Vidwat in Carnatic classical music.
