Stiv Bators was an American punk rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was the lead singer of the Dead Boys and the Lords of the New Church. He was also a solo artist and released several albums. Bators was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland. He was the son of a steelworker and a nurse. He was a fan of rock and roll from an early age, and was inspired by the music of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard. Bators began his musical career in the mid-1970s, playing in various bands in Cleveland. He eventually moved to New York City and formed the Dead Boys in 1976. The band released two albums, Young, Loud and Snotty and We Have Come for Your Children, before disbanding in 1979. Bators then formed the Lords of the New Church with Brian James of the Damned. The band released four albums before disbanding in 1989. Bators also released several solo albums, including Disconnected and L.A. L.A. Bators died in Paris in 1990 after being hit by a taxi. He was 40 years old. Bators was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
