Steven Bochco is an American television producer and writer. He is best known for creating the television series Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, Doogie Howser, M.D., NYPD Blue, and Murder One. He has won 10 Emmy Awards and four Peabody Awards. Bochco was born in New York City on December 16, 1943. He attended the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan and graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in 1965 with a degree in theater. Bochco began his career in television as a story editor on the series Columbo in 1971. He went on to write for a number of other series, including McMillan & Wife, The Rockford Files, and Kojak. In 1975, he created the series Police Story, which ran for four seasons. In 1981, Bochco created the groundbreaking series Hill Street Blues, which ran for seven seasons and won eight Emmy Awards. He followed this success with the series L.A. Law, which ran for eight seasons and won 15 Emmy Awards. Bochco also created the series Doogie Howser, M.D., NYPD Blue, and Murder One. Bochco has won 10 Emmy Awards and four Peabody Awards. He was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1996. As of 2021, Steven Bochco's net worth is estimated to be $100 million.

Attended Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie-Mellon U) as a playwriting major. Barbara Bosson, Michael Tucker, Bruce Weitz and Charles Haid were classmates; he and Tucker drove cross-country to Hollywood for full-time jobs at Universal, where Bochco would remain for 12 years. In 1978, he moved to MTM Enterprises, who after several attempts gave him carte Blanche to create a show similar to Fort Apache the Bronx (1981) (Hill Street Blues (1981)).
