Siegfried E. Loch is a German musicologist, music theorist, and music educator. He is a professor emeritus at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, Germany. He is best known for his work on the music of the Baroque period, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Loch was born in Stolp, Pomerania, Germany (now Slupsk, Pomorskie, Poland). He studied musicology, music theory, and music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, where he received his PhD in 1971. He then taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich from 1971 to 2006. Loch has written extensively on the music of the Baroque period, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. He has also written on the music of the Classical period, the music of the Romantic period, and the music of the 20th century. He has published numerous books and articles on music theory, musicology, and music education. Loch is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the International Musicological Society. He is also a recipient of the Bavarian Order of Merit.
