She is the daughter of a minister and a nurse. She began singing in church at the age of five and was a member of the church choir. She attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit, where she was a member of the school's choir. Shantee Orr began her professional music career in 1993 when she joined the R&B group Xscape. The group released their debut album, "Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha", in 1993. The album was a success, reaching number three on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over three million copies. The group released two more albums, "Off the Hook" (1995) and "Traces of My Lipstick" (1998), before disbanding in 1998. In 2001, Shantee Orr released her debut solo album, "Shantee Orr: The Album". The album featured the singles "I'm Ready" and "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me". The album was a moderate success, reaching number fifty-five on the Billboard 200 chart. In addition to her music career, Shantee Orr has also appeared in several films and television shows, including "The Parkers" (1999), "The Proud Family" (2001), and "The Game" (2006).
