He attended the University of Michigan, where he studied computer science and mathematics. After graduating, he worked as a software engineer for a number of companies, including Apple, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems. In 1993, Aaron created the programming language Ruby, which is now widely used in web development. He also created the music programming language Sonic Pi, which is used to create music with code. In 2006, Aaron founded Oblong Industries, a software company that develops technologies for collaborative work. He is currently the CEO of the company. Aaron has been recognized for his work in the software industry, receiving awards such as the ACM Software System Award in 2008 and the ACM Software System Award in 2009. He was also named one of the top 100 innovators in the world by MIT Technology Review in 2011.
