Roy Andersson is a Swedish film director, best known for his "Living Trilogy" of films, which consists of Songs from the Second Floor (2000), You, the Living (2007), and A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (2014). He has also directed several other films, including Giliap (1975), The Last Dance (1985), and About Endlessness (2019). Andersson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 31 March 1943. He studied at the Swedish Film Institute from 1966 to 1970, and began his career as a director in 1971 with the short film, Giliap. His first feature film, A Swedish Love Story (1970), was a critical and commercial success, and won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Andersson's films are known for their dark humor, absurdist elements, and surrealist visuals. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for Songs from the Second Floor, and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for You, the Living.
