Roosevelt Barnes is an American businessman and former professional football player. He is the founder and CEO of Barnes & Thornburg, one of the largest law firms in the United States. He is also the former president of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). Barnes was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and attended North Side High School. He then attended Purdue University, where he was a three-year starter at linebacker for the Boilermakers. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and was named the team's Most Valuable Player in 1979. After graduating from Purdue, Barnes was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round of the 1980 NFL Draft. He played for the Lions for four seasons, before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 1984. He played for the Rams for two seasons, before retiring from the NFL in 1986. Following his retirement from the NFL, Barnes attended the University of Michigan Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1989. He then founded Barnes & Thornburg, a law firm specializing in business and corporate law. Barnes is a member of the National Football League Players Association Executive Committee, and is a former president of the NFLPA. He is also a member of the board of directors of the NFL Alumni Association. As of 2021, Roosevelt Barnes's net worth is estimated to be roughly $50 million.

He played three sports at Purdue University—football, basketball, and baseball. While he was most noted as a football player, he also enjoyed significant success in basketball, playing on Purdue's 1980 Final Four team. After retiring from professional football, in 1987 Barnes became a partner and contract advisor with Maximum Sports Management. He has negotiated contracts for Laveranues Coles, Walter Jones, Ray Lewis, Ndamukong Suh, and Andre Wadsworth, among others.
