Rodney Bingenheimer is an American radio disc jockey and actor. He was born on December 15, 1947 in Mountain View, California. He is best known for his long-running radio show on KROQ-FM in Los Angeles, California, which he hosted from 1976 to 2018. He is also known as "The Mayor of the Sunset Strip" and "Rodney on the Roq". Bingenheimer began his career as a music fan and promoter in the 1960s, attending concerts and meeting musicians. He was a regular at the Whisky a Go Go nightclub on the Sunset Strip, where he befriended many of the bands of the era. He was also a personal friend of the late David Bowie, and was featured in the 2002 documentary film about Bowie, "Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars". Bingenheimer began his radio career in 1971, when he was hired as a DJ at KROQ-FM in Los Angeles. He hosted the show "Rodney on the Roq" from 1976 to 2018, playing a mix of punk, new wave, and alternative music. He was also known for introducing new bands to the station's listeners. Bingenheimer has also appeared in several films and television shows, including "The Rose", "The Runaways", "The Doors", and "The Simpsons".
