Robin Zander is an American singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Cheap Trick. He was born on January 23, 1953 in Beloit, Wisconsin. Zander began playing guitar at the age of 12 and formed his first band, The Boyz, at the age of 15. He attended Beloit Memorial High School and graduated in 1971. After high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he studied music and theater. In 1974, Zander joined Cheap Trick and the band released their self-titled debut album in 1977. The band achieved mainstream success with their 1979 album Dream Police, which featured the hit single "I Want You to Want Me". The band has since released a total of 18 studio albums and has sold over 20 million records worldwide. Zander has also released two solo albums, Surrender to Me (1989) and Robin Zander (1993). He has also collaborated with other artists, including John Waite, Alice Cooper, and Vince Neil. As of 2021, Robin Zander's net worth is estimated to be roughly $20 million.

In 1974, Zander accepted an invitation to join Cheap Trick. Along with Zander, the band consisted of guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, and drummer Bun E. Carlos. Cheap Trick's 1979 album, Cheap Trick at Budokan, catapulted the band to stardom. The band reached the Top 10 in the U.S. charts in 1979 with "I Want You to Want Me" and topped the charts in 1988 with "The Flame". As of 2018, Cheap Trick had been a band for over 40 years. Cheap Trick has performed more than 5,000 shows and has sold more than 20 million albums. Zander was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Cheap Trick in 2016.

Zander was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, and grew up in nearby Loves Park, Illinois. He learned to play the guitar by age 12. Zander graduated from Harlem High School in Machesney Park, Illinois. After playing in high school bands in the 1960s, he joined Brian Beebe to form the folk duo Zander & Kent in the early 1970s.
