Richard Stoltzman is an American clarinetist and composer. He is best known for his jazz and classical performances, and has been a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras. He has also released several solo albums and has collaborated with a variety of other musicians. Stoltzman was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and began playing the clarinet at the age of nine. He studied at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School of Music, and later at the New England Conservatory of Music. Stoltzman has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with a variety of other musicians, including Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, and Yo-Yo Ma. Stoltzman has released several solo albums, including "Clarinet Summit" (1985), "The Richard Stoltzman Collection" (1995), and "The Richard Stoltzman Collection II" (1998). He has also composed several works for clarinet, including "Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra" (1985) and "Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra" (1995). Stoltzman has won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, the Avery Fisher Prize, and the National Medal of Arts. He is currently a professor of music at the New England Conservatory of Music.
