He began his career as a fashion photographer for Harper's Bazaar in 1945 and went on to become one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century. Avedon's work was characterized by its use of stark black-and-white backgrounds and its focus on the subject's personality. He was known for his iconic portraits of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Andy Warhol. He also photographed public figures such as President John F.
