Ralph Burns was an American composer, arranger, and conductor. He was born in Newton, Massachusetts, and began his musical career as a jazz pianist. He went on to become a prolific composer and arranger, working with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Count Basie. He won an Academy Award for his work on the film All That Jazz, and was nominated for two more. He also won two Grammy Awards and was nominated for four more. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1975. Ralph Burns died on November 21, 2001, at the age of 79.
